Why Don't We Have an NHRI in the United States?

  The United States loves National Human Rights Institutions (NHRI) – for everyone else. We’ve promoted them abroad, but we don’t have one here at home. Why? Because we haven't made it a priority. It's time to make it happen.  A US NHRI is good for everyone.

The US doesn't have one body that coordinates the actual implementation of our human rights commitments. Most of our friends and allies do. An NHRI will not only help to document and monitor human rights trends in the US, but it will also help to create and support a culture of rule of law and civic engagement.
